Koch's moves TV-Appliance store from Bowmanstown to Palmerton

Experience the difference.

For nearly a half century, Koch's Televisions-Appliances has been an institution in Carbon County that has offered top-notch prices, selection and service. That doesn't figure to change now that the third-generation business has decided to relocate its second store from Bowmanstown to Palmerton. The business has opened a new office at 526 Delaware Avenue, in the same building complex as the recently opened Computer Patrol, "The Store".The oldest appliance and television company in the county, Koch's Televisions-Appliances was established by Richard and Faye Koch, owners.Founded in 1963, the first store was located in Normal Square, in the Mahoning Valley. In 1974, the business moved to its current location at 520 Coal Street in Lehighton. From 1989-2005, Koch's operated its second store in Lansford. As the business continued to expand, it purchased Sheckler's TV and Appliances in Bowmanstown, where it had its second location until this month. That's when the opportunity to move its second store to Palmerton became available, which was an offer the business couldn't pass up, according to company President Kevin Koch."We have a lot of close ties in Palmerton, and we feel comfortable," Kevin Koch said. "We think it's a great move, and we are excited about it."Koch said his mother, Faye Koch, and salesman Jim Novak, will primarily run the Palmerton store, with assistance from other employees."It's a nice, beautiful downtown," Kevin Koch said. "It's very community-oriented, which is important to us."Also known for its refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, and air conditioners, the business has the largest selection of televisions and appliances in the area, which Kevin Koch said enables it to offer its products at affordable prices.Kevin Koch said the business joined ADC, one of the largest buying groups in the country, in 2000, in order to offer more brands with very competitive pricing."Being part of one of the largest national buying groups in the country gives us the opportunity to offer the choice of nearly every major brand appliance on the market today, and at a price you can afford," he said. "Also, our display of plasma and LCD high definition televisions is second to none."In addition, the business provides extras that other businesses cannot, such as free normal delivery; free removal of old televisions or appliances; built-in installation; free estimates for proper appliance fitting; wall mount television installations, extended service contracts; and sales staff with over 100 years of combined experience, said Kevin Koch."Our mission is to provide high quality service and a comprehensive choice of brands for our customers," he said. "We extend our thanks to you for choosing Koch's for all your television and appliance needs."From a financial perspective, Kevin Koch said the business is "having a great year.""Considering the state of the economy in our country, we're having a fabulous year, and we had a good year last year," he said. "I think the main reasons are our longevity, and our reputation for service; we try to do whatever possible to take care of our customers."Kevin Koch said the business continues to grow by leaps and bounds, and now has 11 employees. Other employees include Tim Koch, vice-president/ secretary, electronics tech, Josh Koch, sales/service, Cal Dorwood, delivery/ maintenance, Dave Carpenter, appliance tech, Jaime Ketchledge, appliance tech, and Robin Bowman and Janet DeFillipis, sales personnel."Every move we have made has improved our business and bottom line," Kevin Koch said. "We can offer so many different brands at very competitive pricing, and we compete with the big box stores."Another benefit to customers is that the business is able to offer discount labor purchases, Kevin Koch said."We appreciate the business they give us, and in turn, I want to treat them as well as I can," he said. "We want to make it as affordable for people as we can."Store hours at the Palmerton office are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9-6 Friday; and 9-1 Saturday. For more information, call (610)-900-4394, or visit
