Driver facing DUI after Monroe crash

A driver involved in a crash along Meixell Valley Road in Ross Township, Monroe County, about 8:40 p.m. on Friday, July 23, is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI).

State police at Lehighton said John D. Crilley Jr., 28, of Effort, was westbound in a 2004 Saturn Ion when the vehicle went onto the northern edge causing him to lose control. Crilley over-corrected his steering, troopers said, with the car crossing the eastbound lane before striking a mailbox. The vehicle continued on the southern edge and struck trees before coming to rest.Crilley was not injured. He failed field sobriety tests and was taken to the Palmerton hospital for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers added.
