Golden agers

The Panther Valley Golden Agers met on July 12 with a presentation on preventing identity theft by Janine Holter from the Attorney General's Office.Fran Golder read an inspirational message "Living for Today." Mary Ann Stotelmayer read some interesting verses.Jean and Joe Pelcheck were welcomed back after a long absence while visiting family in Texas. Also welcomed was Alice Skrabak.Mimi Marrin will send get well cards on the sick list.The next meeting will be held on July 26 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Hall, Summit Hill. Yearly dues can be paid at any meeting.Summit HillVolunteers neededMembers of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, will be having a stand at the Summit Hill Fire Company's dedication program on Saturday, July 24. Volunteers are needed to set up at noon and to help at the stand during the festivities. Also needed are donations of hot dogs, rolls, soda, water and Rice Krispie squares.Anyone who can help or donate is asked to contact Bob Breiner, (570) 645-5778, or Donna Maynard, 645-2953.Historical societyThe Summit Hill Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting in the form of its annual picnic on Wednesday, July 21. The event will be held at the Vermillion farm in Mahoning Valley, starting around 4 o'clock. A brief business meeting will follow at 6:30 with Lee Mantz, president, in charge.Water authorityThe Summit Hill Water Authority will hold its monthly meeting tonight at 7 o'clock in the borough hall. John Michalik, president, will be in charge.Services soughtSt. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, is seeking the services of individuals to fill various board positions. Openings exist for the parish council and finance committee, Our Lady of the Angels Academy school board and the OLOAA finance committee. The only requirement is a desire to perpetuate the Catholic school. It is not necessary that those serving in the school capacities have a child at OLOAA.Anyone interested in the positions is asked to contact the Rev. James Burdess, pastor.Scripture sharingThe weekly scripture sharing program at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will be held on Thursday, July 22, at 7 p.m. in the rectory.Bible School in Summit HillVacation Bible School will be held at Hope of Christ Presbyterian Church, 44 West White St, Summit Hill. The dates are July 26-30 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.Registration will be held on opening day.Anyone with questions may call 645-6300. Marjorie Keiter, (570) 645-0356.NesquehoningJoe rides through townJoe Snedecker, meteorologist from WNEP-TV, will be riding through Nesquehoning on Wednesday afternoon as he raises money for St. Joseph's Center. He will be heading down Catawissa Street (Route 209) from Tamaqua to Route 93. A Nesquehoning police escort along with the mayor will meet him at the stop signs in town.Please watch WNEP's noon news to find out the approximate time that he will come to Nesquehoning. They are looking at sometime after lunch.
