Theresa Patten, senior, daughter of Dr. Donald and Mary Patten, Sugarloaf, presented a paper and received a 1st Award in the Behavioral Science category at the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium held at the Penn State Conference Center, University Park. Her sponsor was Lorraine Piehota, retired Bishop Hafey science instructor.

Theresa joined other winners at the National Symposium in Bethesda, Maryland.Christopher Ondish, junior, son of Andrew and Zelda Ondish, Conyngham, was the overall winner in the Poster Presentation Category. Lorraine Piehota was the sponsor for his Behavioral Psychology project.Also attending was Stephen Valente, sophomore, son of Robert and Michele Valente, Sugarloaf, Poster Presentation Category. Robert Valente, Marian Catholic Science Faculty member, was the sponsor for his Chemistry project.Students who attended as observers were Victoria Vetter, sophomore, daughter of Harry and Dawn Vetter, Hazleton and Kimberly Wilson, sophomore, daughter of Anthony and Milissa Wilson, Beaver Meadows. Robert Valente accompanied the students.
