Just as each box of crayons contains its own special colors, each student possesses qualities that make them unique in their own right.

That was one of several messages shared with the Palmerton Area High School Class of 2010 at Sunday evening's Baccalaureate Service held at the Living Hope Lighthouse Church in Palmerton.The Rev. Nathan Fry, pastor of the church, gave the welcome. The Rev. Deborah McLean, pastor of Salem United Methodist, discussed the importance of the service.Kelli Arner gave the call to worship. That was followed by the opening hymn, "Amazing Grace", by Frank "Jay" Hall. Sara Smiley then gave the Scripture: Jeremiah 29: 11-13.Brandon Mazepa delivered the Student Message. Mazepa, who went to Costa Rica last summer, said he witnessed firsthand how poor and appreciative those residents were."When I came home from my trip, I was reading the Bible, and I came across a script that I really liked," Mazepa said. "Like it says; it doesn't matter who likes you and who doesn't like you, as long as God likes you."Fry then offered those in attendance Moments of Friendship, which was followed by the Scripture: Proverbs 3: 5-6, given by Kayla Ashner.Ryan Kleintop then delivered the student message: Speaking a Prayer. Kleintop spoke of the journey each of the students have taken, and will continue to take."I can't tell you how thankful I am of what we have accomplished," Kleintop said. "I've come so far, and here we are, graduating high school."Jill Renninger served as a speaker. Renninger told the students the world is theirs for the taking."I know you're all headed for greatness," Renninger said. "We've proved we can do whatever we set our minds to."Alyssa Wentz then gave the Scripture: Psalm 25: 4-5. Arner then introduced the speaker, high school teacher Tammy Recker, who gave the keynote address.Recker told the students she was honored to speak to the students, and said they were a "very special class to me."She then spoke of the book, the "Crayon Box that Talked", one of her eight-year-old daughter's favorite books."In the beginning, you were all a member of a small box," Recker said. "Now, your personal crayon box is complete."Recker said each of the students have a special quality about them that makes them unique.McLean then gave the Prayer of Guidance. Hall then asked for a time of silent reflection, and performed the song "Boring Cry".Nick Bock led the prayers. Fry delivered the benediction.Commencement exercises for the Palmerton Area graduates will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at the high school stadium.
