Meet the CandidatesThe Jeffersonian Democratic Club, Summit Hill, will hold a "meet and greet" session with Democratic candidates on the May 18 Primary Election ballot.This is an opportunity for party members from Summit Hill (those from other areas are invited as well) to meet the candidates for respective offices.The "Coffee with the Candidates" session will take place from 10 a.m. to noon in the borough hall.Absentee votingRegistered voters for the May 18 Primary Election who are unable to get to the voting precincts due to absence from the municipality or medical reasons can vote by absentee ballot. The deadline for applying for an absentee ballot is Tuesday, May 11.Members of the Jeffersonian Democratic Club are available to assist anyone who wants an absentee ballot application.For more information, contact any of the party's eight committeepersons: First Ward - Michael Crampsie and Candice Gimbor; Second Ward - John Shemansik and Danell Rhodunda; Third Ward - Billy O'Gurek Jr. and Robin McArdle; and White Bear - Debbie and Bob Gigliotti.Crime watchThe Summit Hill Crime Watch committee will meet on Monday, May 24 at 7 p.m. in the Summit Hill Borough Hall.NesquehoningAttends conclaveStephen Higgins of town recently attended the Grand Conclave of the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters Mason of Pennsylvania held at the Holiday Inn in Grantville, PA.During the conclave, all bodies within the Grand Council presented their reports along with the budget which were all balloted upon and approved.New officers were nominated and elected after which an open installation was held.The speaker at the conclave and the banquet was Thomas Sturgeon, the Right Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of PA.During the luncheon a table lodge was held with the ladies and attended by several hundred masons and guests.Higgins, a past thrice illustrious, is the elected grand representative to the Grand Council from Anthracite Council #62 of Hazleton. Accompanying Higgins were Edward Whitehead and Andrew Hudock, both past thrice illustrious masters also from the Anthracite Council.CoaldaleFirst Congregational ChurchMother's Day will be observed at the 9 a.m. worship service on Sunday, May 9, at the First Congregational Church on Ruddle Street. Sunday School for all ages will follow at 10 a.m.The church board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, May 10.Choir rehearsal is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 12.There will be a combined choir for the Memorial Day service at 9 a.m. on May 30. Rehearsals will be held at 6 p.m. May 16 and May 26. All are invited to participate.
