Two vehicle accident in Tamaqua

A two-vehicle accident occurred just before 1 p.m. at the intersection of Lehigh Street and Broad Street in Tamaqua Thursday. A witness stated a purple Kia Forte entered the intersection from South Lehigh Street while a white Chevy Lumina was driving west on Route 209 when the impact occurred. Both drivers appeared to be letting the other proceed. The driver of the Chevy Lumina was taken to Pottsville Hospital while the two uninjured children in the Lumina car were taken by a friend or family member. Tamaqua Ambulance, Lehighton Ambulance, Tamaqua Rescue, South Ward Fire Company, and Tamaqua Fire Police Responded to the scene. A witness and nearby resident stated, "A traffic light is needed here. This intersection poses a constant danger to people and students. Something needs to be done." The purple Kia Forte, which was leaking fuel heavily, was towed away by Hopes Towing and Collision. No other injuries were observed.
