The Tamaqua Board of Health held its April meeting with Randolph Gormley, Earl Boettger, James Gormley, Shirley Becker and Health Enforcement Officer James Barron in attendance.Barron submitted his monthly report, including a general inspection at the "I Said Read Me" store; and spot check inspections at Hunan Kitchen, Fegley's Mini Mart; Turkey Hill Mini Mart, Broad Street Deli, Subway Inc. and Luigi's Pizzeria. He also received and adjusted five complaints; two concerning rubbish/trash, two infestations, and one for no heat.There were no cases of reportable diseases for the month.The board reminds residents of borough ordinances pertaining to dog waste.Dog owners are responsible for cleaning up their own properties in a timely manner and anyone who walks their dog is responsible for cleaning up after their pets.Violations should be reported to Tamaqua Borough Hall, (570) 668-3444.Please provide the place, date, time and name of the dog's owner. Citations will then be filed through the office of District Magistrate Stephen Bayer.Class of 2010Parents of the Tamaqua Class of 2010 meet every Monday, at 7 p.m., on the third floor of the Elks Building, 301 W. Broad St. The group is involved in creating decorations for the annual all night party.Parents of all class members are welcome to help.Student recognitionThe Tamaqua Area Student Achievement Committee has finalized plans for the 52 annual Tamaqua Student Achievement Dinner.The event will be held May 16 in the Tamaqua Area Elementary School.Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Arrangements will be made for those who wish to attend the awards ceremony only.Ticket information will be available at a later date.
