Lehighton Area Middle School bands to perform Thursday

The Lehighton Area Middle School music department will be holding its 16th annual Spring instrumental concert on Thursday, April 8, beginning at 7 p.m.

The fifth and sixth grade band, under the direction of Mr. Weidner, will begin the program."Starsplitter Fanfare," composed by Brian Balmages will be their first selection.Next, the band will perform the calming original "Gentle Winds" by Timothy Loest. "Valor," an original march from the pen of Larry Clark, will be their third selection. "Dem Bones" will feature the talents of Jacob Bailey, Luke Fisher, Brock Heckman, and Gregory Kovach on trombone.The fifth and sixth grade band will conclude their portion of the program with the song that launched the rock and roll era, Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock."The jazz ensemble, under the direction of Weidner, will perform next.The jazz ensemble will perform a popular instrumental from the 1950s entitled, "Night Train." Nathan Kroboth, Benjamin Ronemus, Daniel Edmunds, and Nicholas Barnhart are featured on this selection.Next, the ensemble will perform a classic from the big band era entitled, "Dream." Dylan Krum, an eighth grade trumpeter, will be featured on this selection. "Midnight," featuring Daniel Edmunds on alto saxophone, will be the ensemble's third selection. The jazz ensemble will conclude their portion of the program with "Joy to the World." Christopher Windbeck, an eighth grade saxophonist, will be featured on this final selection.The seventh and eighth grade band, under the direction of Beth Perkins, will perform many selections.Karl King's stirring "Valley Forge March" will begin the program. Their next piece, "Sea Song Trilogy," is based on three sea songs or sea shanties. Sara Wingert, an eighth grade saxophonist, will be featured on this selelction. "Quintology", an original selection based off the number five, will be their third selection. Sydney Gandy, Atasha Rehrig, Alyssa Huntington, Ellen Perkins, Rebecca Nagy, Amy Smith, Chris Windbeck, and Corey German will be featured during "Quintology."Next, the seventh and eighth grade band will perform the anthem of the big band era, Glenn Miller's "In The Mood." Devin Frantz and Daniel Edmunds, eighth grade saxophonists, will perform solos during this selection. The tuneful pop song, "Let It Rock," will be the seventh and eighth grade band's final selection and will conclude the concert.The concert is free and open to the public.
