Over $500 was raised by students in the Lehighton Area Middle School and will be used to raise awareness of breast cancer.

A "Pajama Day" was organized by the school's Girl Talk club, during which students were permitted to wear pajamas to school for a fee.Club advisor Peggy Lampman said, "Lehighton Area Middle School students and most recently student clubs have always been proactive when it comes to helping others. The Girl Talk club is no exception."The Pajama Day event was organized by Sara Martz, president, and member Marissa Freeby. Lampman said they wanted to do something to help women."They came up with the idea of paying one dollar to wear pajamas and raise awareness of breast cancer," she said. "We took a vote of the club and the work began."Pink ribbons were placed on an evergreen tree. The ribbons have become the national symbol for breast cancer awareness.In addition, posters were made and advertising and promotions occurred by club members.Funds for the Pajama Day were collected for two weeks during lunch and enrichment periods, said Lampman.She said, "Teachers and students in the building, as well as club members, pitched in and we were able to raise over $500 for the cause."
