The Lehighton Area Council will be meeting on Tuesday March 9, at the Beacon 443 Restaurant. The featured speaker will be Jeff Wendel, PE, Urban Engineers Inc.

Wendel will be speaking about the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Lehigh River Bridge and Pohopoco bridge replacement. The project involves replacing two of the turnpike's largest bridges on the northeast extension. The approximately $100 million project includes new roadway alignment; new pier foundations, seven to 11 foot diameter drilled shafts; retaining walls, maintenance and protection of traffic, bituminous paving, heavy rock excavation, and the construction of an access causeway in the two rivers.The meeting will begin with socializing and networking at 5:30 pm with the meal will be served at 6 p.m. Contact Lehighton Area Council at (610) 377-2191 or email at
