Healing ministry is slated
A bereavement group at St. Francis of Assisi in Nesquehoning is forming for anyone struggling with the grief process in the loss of a loved one, regardless if the loss is recent or happened a long time ago.
The Fall Session Bereavement Group will begin Monday, Oct. 11, and will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. each Monday for a period of six to eight weeks. The group will meet in the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Hall, Mill Street, Nesquehoning.
For registration call the rectory at (570) 669-6321 or Valerie at (570) 668-2386.
At 7 p.m. each Wednesday St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, holds an informal worship: a spiritual, peaceful evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief evening prayer. For those who wish to come early, a simple supper is served at 6 p.m., followed by a brief adult and children's Bible study at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call the Rev. Marjorie Keiter, (570) 645-0356.
The Lansford Food Pantry will be held on Monday, Sept. 20 from 9:30-11 a.m. in the gymnasium of St. Katherine of Drexel's Church on East Abbott Street in Lansford.
The food pantry is held on the third Monday of each month and serves the residents of Lansford that meet the income guidelines. It is a nonprofit organization run by volunteers of the community.
Food items are purchased by state and federal funding and from donations from the local businesses and residents which have been decreasing over the past few years.
Anyone wishing to make a monetary or food donation or would like more information about the program can contact Betty Pearson (570) 645-3416 or Beth Dailey (570) 657-7234.
The pantry is in desperate need of help, especially with the holidays soon approaching. It would like to be able to give a little extra during this time, but cannot do it without more help from the community.
