Colts, Tigers, Panthers post golf victories

Marian, Northwestern and Panther Valley all picked up golf victories on Thursday.



Eric Mason fired a five-over 77 and led the Colts to a 323-475 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Brandon Dopira was also in the 70s, as he finished with a 79 for the Colts, who improved to 9-0 in league play and 9-1 overall.

Josh Reiner led Weatherly with a 113.

Northwestern received 79s from Cole Miller and Nick Vecellio and went on to defeat Notre Dame, 445-471 in a Colonial League match.

The victory improves Northwestern's record to 6-4.

Nativity-Panther Vy.

After playing in a one-hole playoff earlier in the year, Panther Valley defeated Nativity outright in Schuylkill League golf action 317-353.

Matt Tucker was the low-man on the day, as he finished with a 76. Teammates Scott Nevenglosky and Mike Hadesty each added 80s.

The Panthers are now 11-1 on the season.

N. Schuylkill-Tamaqua

Three North Schuylkill golfers shot in the 70s as it rolled to a 307-342 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.

All four Tamaqua golfers had solid rounds in the 80s, but it wasn't enough against the talented Spartans.Mike Toth led the Raiders with an 83.

ES South-Pleasant Vy.

East Stroudsburg South handed Pleasant Valley a 5-2 loss in MVC tennis action.

Lauren Heckelman was the only Bear to win a singles match on the day. She defeated Milena Raskova in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5.

The only other local victory came from the doubles team of Karli Williams/Erin Dougherty. After losing the first set in a tie-break (7-5), the two stormed back and took the next two sets, 6-2, 6-2.

Palisades topped Jim Thorpe, 4-1 in non-league tennis play.

The Olympians' doubles team of Gabby Kline/Kasey Herman earned the only local victory on the day. They won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
