Fillies clinch division title

The Marian girls volleyball team defeated rival Nativity to gain the Schuylkill League Division 4 title.

In other volleyball action, Pleasant Valley completed MVC play undefeated with a win over Stroudsburg.GIRLS VOLLEYBALLMarian-NativityMarian clinched the Schuylkill League Division 4 championship by downing rival Nativity in five games 25-21, 17-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-6.The Fillies (14-0; 13-0 league) will now advance to the league championships, which begin Wednesday at Martz Hall. Marian will face host Pottsville while the other semifinal will pit Pine Grove versus Tri-Valley.Against Nativity, the Fillies were tied 6-6 in the deciding fifth game before reeling off nine straight points to capture the match.Tori Vadyak had 12 kills, four blocks and three digs for the winners.Marian also received a strong effort from MaryKate Sherkness, who finished with 17 kills and 25 digs. Taylor Mele added 10 kills, 27 digs and three aces while Kathleen Reilly contributed seven kills.Other strong performances came from Rachel Krajcirik (two kills, 50 assists, 16 digs, 16 service points, seven aces), Laura Cinicola (four kills, two assists), Cathleen Cataldo (20 disg, 15 service points) and Katelyn Collevechio (14 digs).The Fillies also captured the JV match, earning a 30-28, 20-25, 25-23 victory.Weatherly-ShenandoahWeatherly needed an extra game to post a 25-14, 25-16, 23-25, 25-22 Schuylkill League win over Shenandoah Valley.The Wreckers' Sarah Dolinsky finished with 11 kills, 14 digs, three assists and three aces.
