Indians hand Hindy 100th win
Lehighton head field hockey coach Shawn Hindy gained his 100th win as the Indians earned a 1-0 Mountain Valley Conference win over Pleasant Valley.
In District 11 Class AAA tennis action, the Bears' Kristin Cook was eliminated in the opening round.
District 11 Class 3A
Pleasant Valley's Kristin Cook dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Alyssa Boyd, of Liberty, in the opening round of the District 11 Class 3A Singles' Tournament.
Cook finished the season with a 6-10 overall record that included a strong second half of the season.
"This was Kristin's first year at No. 1 singles and she battled every match," Pleasant Valley head coach Mark Allison said. "She showed a lot of improvement and had a winning record the second part of the season.
"I thought she played well today. The match was tighter than the score indicated. There were a lot of deuce games. She just came up a little short.
"I thought she had a very good senior year."
Kacy Beck's goal with 21 minutes left in the second half was enough to lift Lehighton to a 1-0 Mountain Valley Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.
The victory was the 100th of Shawn Hindy's career as head coach of the Indians.
The Indians' Jordyn Homyak was credited with the assist on what turned out to be the game-winner.
Lehighton outshot PV, 11-5. The Bears' keeper Hannah Bard made seven saves, while the Indians' Kristina Schnell earned the shutout with three stops.
The Tribe remains unbeaten in the MVC at 10-0 and improves to 12-2 overall, while PV falls to 8-7 overall and 7-3 in the MVC.
Northwestern blanked Palmerton for a 3-0 Colonial League win.
Tiffany Gumina led the Tigers with two goals, while Caleigh Landrigan added the other score.
Lauren Horner and Sarah Murray both added assists.
The Tigers' goalie Sam Rex ended with three saves, while the Bombers' Lydia Anthony recorded 19 saves.
Northwestern jumps to 7-5-1 overall (6-5-1 in the CL).

Ricky Forte, James Patterson, Jeremy Curatola, Alex Mansour, Blake Evans, Jordan Walters and Aaron Guerra all scored to help the Bears remain unbeaten at 10-0 (14-1 overall) in the MVC.
The Bears' Jack Wathen was credited with two assists, while Aaron Cetnar, Malik Krcic and Kerry Shilling each had one assist.
Lehighton keeper Shane Fordyce finished with 16 saves.
Northwestern scored five goals in the first half to roll to a 5-1 Colonial League win over visiting Palmerton.
Isaiah Danner and Jimmy Hoover both paced the Tigers' attack with two goals, while Curtis Cappuccino scored the other.
NW's Andrew Willis had two assists, while Austin Marich and Hoover each had one.
The Bombers' Nate Binder spoiled the shutout with a second half goal.
The Tigers' keeper Talon Williams finished with three saves, while the Bombers' Brett Snyder ended with four.
Gonzalo Cascante scored both of Tamaqua's goals and the Raiders gained a 2-1 Schuylkill League win over visiting North Schuylkill.
The Blue Raiders' Caleb Leibenguth recorded the assist on Cascante's second goal.

Notre Dame of Green Pond needed four games to score a 25-15, 25-23, 18-25, 25-19 non-conference win over Lehighton.
The Indians' Debra Lobien finished with 15 assists, six kills and three aces, while Lauren McCullian recorded 15 digs. Teammate Natalie Zurn collected four aces.
Notre Dame posted a 25-7, 25-18 victory over Lehighton in the JV game.
East Stroudsburg North-Pleasant Valley
Pleasant Valley remained undefeated in Mountain Vally Conference play by knocking off East Stroudsburg North, 25-19, 25-15, 25-19.
Breanna Joseph led the Bears' attack with eight kills and three blocks, while Kayla Dorney recorded four aces, four kills, seven digs and two blocks.
PV's Brittni Cumberland ended with 12 assists and Andre Giardina chipped in with 13 digs.
