RSVP seeking volunteers

Published November 05. 2010 05:00PM

Pennsylvania Senior Retired Volunteer Program (RSVP) is looking for a few volunteers to help as Benefit Ambassadors in the BenefitsCheckUp program in Carbon County. A Benefits Ambassador is a person who is dedicated to assist senior citizens and others identify the benefits to which they may be potentially eligible by using the BenefitsCheckUp website. As a Benefits Ambassador they provide screening and follow-up services in accessing these potential benefits. Volunteer tasks include: working one on one with clients (and/or caregivers) to assist them in completing the BCU paper questionaire; entering the data in the BCU Website; printing out the results; explaining the potential benefits and how to access the benefits. Attention to detail and comfort working with the computer is essential to this volunteer task.

BenefitsCheckUp is sponsored by the National Council on Aging, whose mission is to improve the lives of older Americans. A BCU is free to all older adults with modest incomes and resources and to persons 18 years of age and older and on Disability. It is free and completely confidential.

Call the Carbon County RSVP office at (610) 377-2021 or email to get more information on how to become a BenefitsCheckUp Ambassador or on how to receive a BCU for you or someone you know.

RSVP is sponsored by Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries and helps to provide volunteers to over 50 non-profit agencies and organizations in Carbon County.
