The District 11 Swimming Championships will be held Friday and Saturday at Parkland High School.

Seedings for the meet were realeased this week. Several Panther Valley and Tamaqua swimmers are well represented among the Class AA seeds, as well as a few from Weatherly and Palmerton, which has the Times News area's highest seeded individual.

The Blue Bombers Shea Solt, a district runner up in two events last year, is seeded first in the 500-yard freestyle and second in the 200-yard freestyle. The senior whose school does not have a swim team, finished second in both of those events last year.

Solt will have a teammate at districts this season. Palmerton freshman Katie Pielmeier is seeded second in the 200-yard individual medley and seeded fifth in the 100 breaststroke, an event where five TN area athletes qualified. Two Panther Valley swimmers, juniors Lauren Cormier and Karoline Vavra, are seeded second and third, respectively, in the breaststroke.

In boys events, Tamaqua senior Ben Tucket is the No. 3 seed in the 100 backstroke.

The winner of each individual event or relay in Class AA will qualify for the state meet, held at Bucknell University March 19 and 20. Swimmers who do not win events, can also earn a state meet berth by being one of the top 16 times in the state among swimmers who do not earn automatic berths. In relays, eight additional teams can qualify for states.
