Lansford woman facing charges
Andrette Haupt, 50, 11 N. Walnut St., Lansford, faces charges from an incident which took place at Boyer's Market at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 3. Charges were filed by Officer Joshua Tom. Haupt is charged with felony retail theft and receiving stolen property (a misdemeanor). She was arraigned before District Judge Edward Lewis and committed to prison under 10 percent of $10,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb.10.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, Tom and Officer Brian Horos received a call from Boyer's Food Market. The complainant stated that an older white female wearing a gray hood, blue jeans and a pink shirt had just run out of the store, possibly with several stolen items.
Store employee Anthony Sorohaput observed Haupt placing items into a brown purse and confronted Haupt after she had finished purchasing a smal list of items. Haupt cooperated with Sorohaput and the store manager. She was asked by the store manager to open her purse and she complied. However, when Sorohaput asked to see what was inside a zippered pocket in the purse, Haupt screamed and caused a disturbance and ran out of the store. She got into a gray Buick sedan and fled the area.
Upon encountering Haupt at the intersection of West Ridge Street and Klock's Hill, Haupt was found to have in her possession a brown purse and two plastic bags comntaining several items. After checking the purse, Tom found two bottles of 5-hour Energy Drink and a pack of Schick razor blades lying inside the car in plain view. Haupt had no receipt for the items.
After recieving confirmation from Boyer's that they do sell those items, Haupt was arrested for retail theft.
