Mahlon and Ruth Breiner of Hometown have announced the engagement of their daughter, Lisa Breiner of Tamaqua to Jonathan Shirvinski, also of Tamaqua.

The bride-to-be is an eighth-grade social studies teacher at Eyer Middle School in the East Penn School District. She is a 1999 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School. She is a 2003 magna cum laude graduate of Bloomsburg University, where she received bachelor's degrees in history, political science and social studies education. She also received a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Kutztown University in 2007. She is currently working on a second master's degree in secondary education counseling from Kutztown University.The prospective bridegroom is the son of Joseph and Rosemary Shirvinski of Barnesville. He currently teaches biology at Mahanoy Area High School. He is a 1990 graduate of Mahanoy Area High School, and a 1995 and 2001 graduate of Bloomsburg with a bachelor's degrees in medical imaging, biology and secondary education. He received a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Bloomsburg University in 2009.A wedding is planned for June 30, 2012.
