DUI checkpoint information released

The North Central Pennsylvania Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce and Expanded DUI/Underage Drinking Enforcement Program has released the following statistics from recent Roving DUI Patrols held in Schuylkill County.

On March 26, a Roving DUI Patrol contacted and detained a total of 30 vehicles. One motorist was tested for possible driving under the influence, with no arrests. Officers cited 23 drivers for traffic violations and one seat belt violation, made seven criminal arrests and issued three warnings. The patrol was conducted by three law enforcement officers representeing three police departments.A roving patrol was also conducted on March 27, involving two officers from two local departments. A total of 29 vehicles were contacted and detained. Four operators were tested for possible DUI, with one adult arrested. Officers issued 18 traffic citations and issued 13 warnings.Sobriety checkpoints and Roving DUI patrols will also be conducted through April 4 on state routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 309, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.Travelers are reminded to dial 911 if they suspect a drunk driver.To report underage drinking, call 1-888-UNDER21.The sobriety checkpoints and Roving DUI patrols are funded through the state Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
