Angel Band soars at Opera House

On Saturday, Nov. 7 at 8:30 p.m. the Mauch Chunk Opera House, 14 W. Broadway in Jim Thorpe will host Angel Band.

Boisterous, sad, sweet, goofy, glorious and angelic. Any which way you look at it this stuff gets your attention. Whether it's the crazy tight three part harmony, the killer backup playing, the stories, the passion, it gets your attention. The songs are mostly self-penned, weaving vivid images, powerful lyrics, musical integrity and "chops" to write home about. The core of the band is held by the three singers: Nancy Josephson, Aly Paige and Kathleen Weber. All are experienced on lead and backup vocals. Working as the crackerjack backup band is Marc Moss (drums, guitar, and mandolin, accordion), Bob Taylor (electric and acoustic bass), and Christie Lenée (guitar). The love of the sound that three female voices make together is at the center of this group. The sound that emanates from the band roams from old time "mountain" music to contemporary rock and roll influenced originals. You'll hear a fusion of folk, roots, blues, country and gospel-tinged throw downs. The impetus for Angel Band came from a weekly jam session that was headed by David Bromberg, who wanted to get back into playing music again. As his band came together and began to tour the ladies, who often served as backup singers, started opening shows for him and became an entity in their own right. Most of the instrumentation is acoustic which allows the strength of the voices and the stunning harmonies to shine on through.Angel Band has two well crafted CD's "Beautiful Noise" debuting in 2006 joined by the current release "With Roots & Roots" in 2007. Both recordings are injected with hooky songs, world-class production and masterful musicianship.Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the performance begins at 8:30 p.m.To reserve tickets by phone, or for more information, call (570) 325-0249.
