Woman who stole from employer gets probation

A woman who stole more than $7,000 from her employer was placed on probation Monday in Carbon County court.

Melinda Betancourt, 43, of Slatington, was placed on five years probation by Judge David W. Addy on one count of theft by unlawful taking.She was charged by Palmerton police for taking $7,255 from her employer at the time, Rite Aid drug store, while she worked as an assistant manager. The charges were filed in Septmeber 2007.Addy also ordered her to pay a minimum of $150 per month on the restitution and court costs.
