On Oct. 17, at about 1:45 a.m., the Rush Twp Police Department responded to East Main Street for a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, a red Dodge pick up truck was on its side and damaged a PPL pole. The driver fled the scene on foot before police arrived.

The driver was identified as Elden Neifert Jr., 21, of Quakake. Assisting at the scene was the Quakake Fire Company and Hometown Fire Police. East Main St was closed for approximately five hours due to repairs to the pole. Charges are pending completion of the investigation. Alcohol did play a factor in the crash, police said.On Oct. 13, at about 7:45 p.m., police responded to Walmart for a retail theft.Merlin Gonzalez, 40, and Alexis Mayen, 41, both of Mahanoy City, were cited for retail theft after attempting to steal merchandise from the store.
