Rep. McCall to host annual Senior Fair

State Rep. Keith McCall (D-Carbon) will host his 9th annual Senior Fair on Thursday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Jim Thorpe Memorial Hall.

The event, which is free and open to all older adults in the 122nd Legislative District, is designed to help seniors learn valuable information about help that is available, what they can do as they age, and how they can stay healthy and active.More than 40 area companies and state agencies will be on-hand to answer any questions and provide a sufficient amount of information. There will also be free medical tests, including blood pressure screenings, pulmonary function and pulse tests, depression screenings, blood oxygen saturation testing and more.New this year at the fair is a food drive for local food banks.McCall asks all participants to consider bringing a non-perishable food item for donation to a food bank. Food donations are not required for entry into the senior fair, but all donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted.Some examples of the more popular food bank food items include: beef stew, canned processed meat, pork and beans, green beans, instant potatoes, tomato soup, chili and beans, kidney beans, spaghetti, canned milk, powdered milk, fruit cocktail, canned pasta, jelly, canned salmon, tuna fish, spaghetti sauce (plain or with meat), peanut butter, canned corn, vegetable soup, canned peas, rice, chicken noodle soup, macaroni and cheese boxed dinners, cereals, apple sauce, peaches, crackers, and salad dressing.For more information on the upcoming senior fair, contact one of McCall's constituent service offices in Carbon County.
