Garden club

The Lewistown Valley Garden Club held its annual Tea on Sept. 29. The event was held in the social hall of Zion's Church, Lewistown Valley. Club members were joined by friends and guests for an old fashion tea party.The program was provided by Sandy Anthony of Down Memory Lane Creations. Mrs. Anthony created numerous floral creations, which were presented to members, and provided tips on designs, preservatives and creativity. The program also included information about Fall ornamental plants, their longevity and edibility, as well as cooking and baking tips.The club will celebrate its 63 anniversary on Oct. 27, at the Pioneer Tree Farm/Forget Me Not Florist in Adamsdale. Reservations are required and may be made by calling (570) 467-3516.Board of HealthThe October meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the municipal building with James Gormley, Earl Boettger, Shirley Becker, Health Officer Judith Hadesty R.N. and Health Enforcement Officer James Barron in attendance.Barron reported making six spot check inspections: Tamaqua Salvation Army; Happy Endings Bar; La Dolce Casa; Burger King; Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church; and the Golden Spike Inn. He also received and adjusted 17 complaints: 12 for rubbish or garbage; 4 possible infestations; and 1 strong odor.There were no cases of reportable diseases for the month of September.Cross countryThe Tamaqua Area Cross Country Boosters will meet Tuesday, at 6:30 p.m., at Sisters Restaurant and Cantina. Anyone interested in supporting the teams is welcome to attend.
