Senior Citizens

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., in the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart.Last week's meeting was attended by 85 members. Vice President Jean Behr conducted the business session and reported sending get well cards to Helen Wetterau and Jean Yanik. A thank you card was sent to E. Franklin Griffiths for his continued support of the monthly birthday parties.Aseneth Horan and Rose Eick were added to the sick list.Eleanor Roberts offered an invocation, entitled "Little Things."Secretary Eleanor Schmerfeld and treasurer Dolores Walck offered their respective reports. Jean Machamer offered inspirational readings.September and October birthdays were celebrated. Honorees included: Carole Sullivan, Carol Sedlak, Joan Ann Garber, Betty Brobst, Mary Nazar, Jane Tartar, Mary Herbig, Marlene Randig, Olive Beibleheimer, Mary Draper, Eleanor Roberts, Rose Vallee, Ruth Schwoyer, Suzanne Highes and Alberta Woodring. Each was provided with cake and ice cream compliments of the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.St. Peter'sThe Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. A Joyous Noise Offering will be collected in honor of Stephen Behen and the American Heart Walk. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 1 p.m.Activities for next week will include: Monday, Food Coop at 9 a.m.; Tuesday, newsletter deadline; Wednesday, retirees meeting at 10 a.m.; Thursday, Prayer group meets at 5 p.m. and dinner theater rehearsal will be at 6:30 p.m.The choirs rehearse on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: Cherubs at 6:30 p.m., Junior Choir at 7 p.m. and Senior Choir at 7:45 p.m.United MethodistFirst and Salem United Methodist Churches will participate in a joint worship service this Sunday, at 9:30 a.m., in Salem United Methodist Church. The Rev. James Caravello will officiate.
