Carbon assault incident probed

State police at Fern Ridge are investigating an assault incident at a Carbon County residence that occured about 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10.

Troopers allege that Wayne Gutwein, of Albrightsville, attacked William Tappan, also of Abrightsville, in the area of 69 Nathan Way, Towamensing Trails, Penn Forest Township, Albrightsville, while he slept in his vehicle because Gutwein throught Tappan had damged the rear window on Gutwein's 2002 Ford Explorer.

Troopers said Gutwein opened the door and struck Tappan about the back of the head with a closed fist. He then pulled Tappan out of the vheicle and as the victim stood Gutwein struck him in the face with a closed fist, breaking Tappan's nose, troopers charged.

Gutwein was charged with simple assault.
