The 25th Annual Howard E. Deppe All-Stars Baseball Classic benefiting the American Cancer Society will be held on Saturday, June 5 at Fegely Stadium.

The raindate for the event will be held on Sunday, June 6.

An all-day ticket cost $5, which includes all games.

The event starts off with the Black team versus the Blue team at 2 p.m.

The Frank Yelinko All-Star Home Run Derby will follow at 4:30 p.m.

The evening caps off with the Red team versus the Purple team.

All games are seven innings without the 10-run rule in effect.

EAST STROUDSBURG - Since the Mountain Valley Conference switched to a playoff format to decide its soccer champion three years ago, only two girls' teams have played for the title.

Stroudsburg put an end to Pleasant Valley's five-year dominance in 2008, but the Lady Bears exacted revenge on the Mounties last year and took back the title.

BANGOR - Winning a league title is a big accomplishment for any track and field athlete.

Doing it it two years in a row is even better.

Two area athletes successfully defended their Colonial League titles Thursday at this year's championship meet at Bangor Memorial Park.

Northwestern senior Joe Hall picked up his second straight high jump title while also taking home gold in javelin and silver in shot put and discus. Palmerton sophomore Kelsey Hay defended her league titles in the javelin and shot put.

Tri-Valley's seventh inning rally to beat Weatherly highlighted Thursday's scholastic sports schedule. The loss prevent the Wreckers from qualifying for the District 11 softball playoffs.

BASEBALL

Tri-Valley-Weatherly

Tri-Valley plated 11 runs in the fourth inning to run away with a 14-2 Schuylkill League Division II win over Weatherly.

The Bulldogs' Travis Hinel finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Matt McGinley was 2-for-2 with a double and a RBI.

Keith Barna paced the Wreckers with a 2-for-2 day. Barna ended up with two singles, a run scored and a RBI.

The Tamaqua Track and Field Boosters is hosting a pre-Hershey qualifying meet for kids 9-14 years of age. This event is open to ALL students attending schools within the Tamaqua Area School District.

The meet will take place on May 22, 2010 at the Tamaqua High School Stadium.

The meet will start at 10 a.m. with check in being from 8:30 - 9:45 a.m. In the event of rain, the meet will be held on May 23 with a start time of 12 p.m. with check in being from 10:30 - 11:45 a.m.

EAST STROUDSBURG - The Lehighton girls' track team didn't quite know where it stood in the Mountain Valley Conference track meet until the last two events were taking place.

Once word spread that the Indians were in first place by 20 points, head coach Randy Frey and his girls started to get excited. Then, once the final standings were read over the loud speaker, all of the girls erupted into cheers and screams.

MAHANOY CITY - A cold and damp spring day didn't prevent Carl St. Hill from providing a hot performance.

The Jim Thorpe senior sprinter dashed his way to four gold medals, two individual and two relays, at the Schuylkill League Track and Field Championships held Wednesday at Mahanoy Area High School..

On the girls side, the Lady Olympians' Ashley Nicola has a breakout performance, winning the 100 and 200 meter races.
