Tamaqua man facing assault charges

A Tamaqua man was jailed Friday morning following an altercation on Mauch Chunk Street, in the area of Freddy's Pub.

Percy Brown, 32, of 32 E. Elm St., Tamaqua, was arraigned before Duty District Magistrate James Kilker on charges of simple assault, and harassment. Bail was set at $15,000 straight cash.Unable to post bond, Brown was incarcerated in the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville.Police were dispatched to North Railroad Street at 2:22 a.m. Friday and met with two females who reported being assaulted in front of the Mauch Chunk Street Bar.The women, Alyssa Bernardi and Amanda Beshock, only knew the assailant by the street name "P." Police said that according to the victims, they had been in the bar, became involved in an altercation with a man and woman, and were thrown out by the bartender.Once outside, "P" came up behind them and punched Beshock in the face, police were told. He allegedly continued hitting her until she fell to the ground, unconscious.When confronted by Bernadi, "P" then struck her in the face. according to the police report. She reportedly punched him back. As "P" kept punching Bernardi, the two individuals involved in the altercation in the bar came outside and began kicking the unconscious Beshock, it was reported to police.The three assailants then fled the scene in a vehicle, traveling north. Bernardi revived her friend and then went to the home of another friend and called police.Officers located a male fitting the description provided by the victims. The male, identified as Brown, told officers he had been assaulted by two women. He admitted to being known as "P" by his friends and was positively identified by the women as their initial assailant.Beshock was transported to St. Luke's Miners Hospital, Coaldale, in the Tamaqua Community Ambulance.
