Jim Thorpe's interborough bridge was built 50 years ago this month, but instead of celebrating the anniversary, state and local officials are counting the days until the structure can be replaced.

The bridge, which carries 8,000 vehicles across the Lehigh River daily has greatly deteriorated.Although PennDOT intents to tear it down and build another span nearby, construction is a few years away.
