Panther Valley hosts Carbon chorus

The annual Carbon County High School Chorus, featuring vocalists from high schools throughout Carbon County, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Panther Valley High School auditorium.

The guest director will be Tim Sterner, nationally known director of high school groups.Sterner has been teaching for 26 years in the School District Of Lancaster. In 1988-89, he began his career teaching general music at Lincoln Junior High and transferred to J.P. McCaskey High School in the 1992-1993 school year.During the summer months, Sterner serves as a choral conductor for American Music Abroad-Burgundy Tour. He has had the opportunity to conduct choirs in England, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Italy.At J.P. McCaskey, Sterner teaches Advanced Placement Music Theory, International Baccalaureate Music, Independent Study Music, Vocal Ensemble, and Chamber Choir.While under the direction of Sterner, the choral program has been selected to perform at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Conference six times.His choirs consistently receive superior ratings in choral competitions.During his tenure at J.P. McCaskey, Tim has served as musical director/conductor/rehearsal accompanist for the following such musicals as Little Shop of Horrors, The Wiz, Grease, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Fiddler On the Roof, and How To Succeed.Selections for the concert tomorrow at Panther Valley include "I Dream A World," "Benedictus," "This Little Light of Mine," "Alpha and Omega," and "He Never Failed Me."Nearly 70 students will be taking part in the musical program.An admission fee of $5 per adult and $3 for students and senior citizens is charged.Mark Christ, music director at Panther Valley, said all proceeds will be used to benefit the music department of the school and to defray concert expenses.
