4 County Council ALA announces essay winners

Four County Council American Legion Auxiliary recognized winners of the annual essay contest. Four County Council encompasses Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe and Northampton counties. From left are, Sue Anthony, Four County Council chairman; Emily Farmer, seventh and eighth grade winner, attends St. Jane Frances de Chantal Valley High School, sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 9, Palmer Township, Easton; Nina Rose Giambalva, 11 and 12 grade winner, attends Pleasant Valley High School, sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 927, Gilbert: Sandra Lilly, Four Council First Vice President; Patrick Sienkowski, third and fourth grade winner, attends Tobyhanna Elementary School, sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 413, Pocono Pines; and Mason Gerhard, fifth and sixth grade winner, attends Weatherly Elementary School, sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 360, Weatherly. Essays were chosen by their sponsoring units and were sent to the Four County Council level. Each winner attended the Four County Council's meeting on May 11 and were congratulation on their winning essays and were given a gift card. Each winner read their essays and were given applause for their accomplishment. Their essays were also forwarded to the state level for competition. These essays have been chosen as winners in their perspective sponsoring units. The essays were then sent on to the Four County council level where they were chosen once more as winners and now sent on to state level where judging will take place again. Each winner attended the Four County council's meeting on May 11 in which they were congratulated on their winning essays and given a gift card. Each winner read their essays and were given applause for their accomplishment. They were wished good luck in the next level of the essay competition.
