Mansion House Hill accident injures 2

Two persons were injured late Tuesday night when involved in a crash along SR209 in Mahoning Township. The crash occurred just after 9 p.m. on the Mansion House Hill between Lehighton and Jim Thorpe. The accident involved a tractor trailer, driven by Robert Mitchell, 46, of Glassboro, N.J., which was heading south, and a sport utility vehicle, driven by Robert Stidham, 77, of Jim Thorpe, traveling north. The SUV came to rest on its side along the west berm with members of the Lehighton Fire Department having to remove the roof of the vehicle to extricate Stidham. The rig came to rest in the center of the roadway. Traffic control was maintained by Lehighton and Jim Thorpe fire police. Mahoning Township police, who are investigating the accident, said Route 209 was closed for about two hours. Jim Thorpe police assisted Mahoning officers. Both drivers were treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics. Stidham was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township and Mitchell was taken to the Gnaden Huetten Campus of Blue Mountain Health System.
