Thorpe driver facing DUI count

A Jim Thorpe driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following an incident that occurred on Sept. 13 at about 7:08 p.m.

At the time and date stated borough police were dispatched to Center and Third street, for a two-vehicle crash. Police said they learned a 2000 Subaru Outback station wagon had run a stop sign and rear-ended a 2009 Subaru Impreza sedan.The driver of the Outback was identified as Deanne L. Mullen, 44, of 16 E. Sixth St. Mullen showed signs of impairment, police said, and told officers she had taken prescribed medication earlier in the day.Mullen was transported to St. Luke's Hospital, Coaldale, for treatment of injuries. At the hospital police requested a blood draw.The result of the blood test revealed the presence of five different compounds in concentrations high enough to impair safe operation of a vehicle, police said. Mullen has been charged with DUI of a controlled substance and a summary count of stop sign violation.The driver of the Impreza and four occupants were taken to the Lehighton hospital for treatment of injuries. Their names were not released by police.
