Jim Thorpe police are reminding all borough residents to conduct checks on any contractor prior to contracting with them to perform various types of jobs on their homes.
While the law requires contractors to register with the Attorney General's office, this registration is not an endorsement of the honesty or quality of work, police noted. For this reason, in addition to seeing whether a contractor is registered, police urged residents to also thoroughly check the contractor's references, obtain more than one bid for the job, and check for complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau.
