St. Joseph Regional Academy lists Catholic Schools Week activities

St. Joseph Regional Academy in Jim Thorpe is planning a number of activities for the annual Catholic Schools Week Celebration.

On Jan. 30 and Feb. 1, students will participate in "Lunch with a Loved One," where each student invited someone they love to have lunch with them.Jan. 31 is "Wear your PJs to School Day" and a special broadcast from Penn's Peak Radio is scheduled. Casey Parker will come to the school from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., and will SKYPE with the students live with "The Doctor" on the morning show "Daily Bump and Grind," which can be heard at

www.pennspeakradio.com or on Blue Ridge Cable channel 80 or 113.At 5:30 p.m., there will be an open house and complimentary homemade soup and subs will be served. All are welcome. Registration for new students will also take place during the open house.On Feb. 3, school BINGO will be held and author Kathy Miller willvisit to read her new book "Chippy Chipmunk: Babies in the Garden."According to a recent study, today's youth spends an average of 44 hours per week staring at electronic devices, creating America's first generation to grow up emotionally and physically disconnected from nature. One goal of this presentation is to stimulate an interest in nature by exposing students to natural behaviors they can observe in the local environment.Feb. 3 is also St. Joseph Regional Academy's 100th Day of School. Kindergarten through second grade will be doing some events to celebrate this day.As the school's community project, the students chose to help our furry homeless friends.Donations are being collected from students, families and friends to assist the dogs in the Carbon County Animal Shelter and cats at Carbon County Friends of Animals.St. Joseph Regional Academy is located at 25 W.
