Woman charged after vehicle stop

A Lansford woman faces several charges stemming from a vehicle stop in Tamaqua on May 25.

Tamaqua Police were monitoring traffic in the area of the Five Points intersection at 1:08 a.m., when a white Jeep, traveling very slowly, entered the straight through lane at the intersection. When the light turned green, the Jeep swerved into the turn lane, cutting off another vehicle, then headed north on Mauch Chunk Street, traveling approximately 5

m.p.h.The officer instituted a traffic stop and determined the driver to be Monica Matula, 31, of 209 W. Abbott St., Lansford. Matula exhibited several signs of possible intoxication, including slurred speech, glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol emanating from her person. She was given, and failed, several field sobriety tests. She refused to submit to blood tests.She will be cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, making an improper turn and failure to use the required turn signal.
