Traffic was a nightmare Thursday afternoon along SR248 after an accident closed the westbound lanes just west of the Palmerton exit. The crash occurred just after 5 p.m. as the driver of a late model Mercedes Benz apparently lost control of the car striking the concrete center barrier. The car continued on swerving to the right crossing both lanes impacting with the steel guardrails. The car reentered the roadway crossing both lanes impacting with the barrier a second time. The car continued on sliding along the barrier until it came to rest. Two persons were treated at the scene and transferred to an area hospital. The road was closed with traffic being detoured off the roadway onto Mauch Chunk Road in Palmerton to Bowmanstown. Palmerton police are investigating the incident.
