Stonehedge Gardens, located at 51 Dairy Road in South Tamaqua, will be holding an art gallery open house as part of its annual members' picnic this Saturday from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.

The appreciation picnic will consist of socializing and good food, as well as music by Fats Walker. The day will also launch the reopening of Stonehedge's Art Gallery.

The gallery will be stocked with an array of fine hand-crafted items, from the ceramic works of Russell Keich and Patty Passick, the basketry of Mary Linkevich, woodwork by Bob Reinhart and Charles Shackelford, artistic jewelry by Mary Szakmeister and Ecuadorian display from Mountain of Hope Outreach.

Members and prospective members will also be treated to two art openings. In the gallery an ensemble show called "Visions of Stonehedge", images by the Palmerton Photography Club will be on displayed. A reception also will be held for Tamaqua freshman Jacob Gursky, 14, whose sculptures, writings and drawings will be showcased in the gallery.

The gallery will initially be opened on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from noon to 7 p.m. with hours expanding as the holidays approach and Stonehedge's 31th Tree Lighting Season begins in a few months. Board member Patty Passik pointed out that they are seeking military artists to temporarily display their artwork in the gallery. All proceeds benefit the organization's maintenance and development.

Stonehedge Gardens Inc. is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization run by a voluntary board of directors focused on creating environmental sustainability via year-round gardens, consisting of Perennial gardens, hosta and shade gardens, culinary herb garden, butterfly gardens, water garden, koi pond and Labyrinth, as well as and numerous community events. The gardens are also surrounded by nearly 20 additional acres of woodlands and nature trails and is a certified Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation.
