Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua breezed to girls soccer victories to highlight Saturday's scholatic sports action.

GIRLS SOCCER

Jim Thorpe-No. Schuylkill

Jim Thorpe overcame an early deficit to defeat North Schuylkill, 5-2, in Schuylkill League action..

Spearheaded by Cat Condly and Chelsea Smelas, who had two goals apiece, Jim Thorpe scored five unanswered goals in the game to overcome an early 1-0 deficit. Condly also an assisted on an Alyssa Smith goal. Kristin Lawrence also had an assist for the Olympians.

Celeste Meriano had eight saves for Thorpe.

Nativity BVM-Tamaqua

The Lady Raiders returned to the win column and did so in convincing fashion, defeating Nativity BVM, 6-0, in Schuylkill League action.

The Tamaqua offense lit up the scoreboard with six goals, but perhaps more impressive was the Raider defense that didn't allow the Golden Girls to take a shot on goal throughout the enire game.

Kayla Hope had a hat trick while Kailee Rottet had two goals and three assists for Raiders. Taylor Gerber also added a goal for Tamaqua.

Tamaqua (12-1, 9-1) outshot their opponents, 24-0.

FIELD HOCKEY

Northwestern-Freedom

Northwestern blanked Freedom in a non-league game, 5-0.

Lauren Horner had two goals and two assists for the winners. Samantha Partington, Paige Horner and Caileigh Landrigan also had goals for the Tigers (8-3-3) while Sara Jones and Hannah Beville contributed assists.

NW got eight saves in goal from Lorraine Feinour.

Freedom drops to 3-12.

Palmerton-Palisades

Rachael Preitz scored the game-winning goal in the second half as Palisades edged Palmerton, 2-1, in a Colonial League game.

Palmerton's lone goal was scored by Jessica Pereira and assisted Kyla Rodrigues.

The hosts outshot Palmerton 18-13 in the game. Bomber goalie Devon Smith had eight saves.

Allen-Pleasant Vy.

Allen posted a 3-1 non-league win over Pleasant Valley.

Bethany Mink had a goal and two assists for the Canaries.

For Pleasant Valley, (5-9-1), Tai Dottery scored off an assist from Melissa Russo.

Both teams amassed 10 shots on goal in the contest.

Lehighton-Wilson

Despite being outshot in the game, 32-3, Lehighton still made its non-league match up with Wilson interesting, before dropping a 1-0 decision.

Wilson's only goal was scored by Megan Keenan in the first half.

Lehighton goalies Lauren Burrows and Kristina Schnell teamed up for a combined 18 saves.

The Indians fall to 7-6-3 overall, 6-2-3 in the MVC.

BOYS SOCCER

Williams Vy.-Jim Thorpe

Williams pulled away for a 4-1 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

Matt Rich scored the Olympians' goal off an assist from Benny Mazella.

Kyle Lawrence had 12 saves in the JT net.

Lehighton-No. Lehigh

Channing Shiffert had a hat trick and added an assist to help lead Northern Lehigh to a 6-0 non-league win over Lehighton.

The Bulldogs (9-6; 5-6) also received goals from Zeb Chiffert, Josh Pristash and Aaron Harding while Pristach, Thatcher George and Ryan Perkowski each had assists.

Northern Lehigh held a 23-6 advantage in shots.

So. Lehigh-Northwestern

Seth Leow scored off an assist from Griffin Koch in the second half to lift Southern Lehigh to 1-0 Colonial League win over Northwestern.

Despite the loss, the Tigers' Talon Williams had seven saves in goal.

Northwestern falls to 6-8-1. The Spartans improve to 9-2-3.

Blue Mtn.-Tamaqua

After two halves of regulation and two overtime sessions, the outcome was finally decided when Keith Wagner's goal lifted Blue Mountain to a 1-0 Schuylkill League win Tamaqua.

Blue Mountain, which outshot the Blue Raiders 10-4 in the game, got four saves from goal keeper Mark Travor, as he posted a shutout.

Meanwhile, Tyler Cimino stopped seven shots on goal for Tamaqua.

Blue Mountain also won the JV contest, 3-0.
