Franklin Township supervisors recently tentatively adopted the 2012 budget. There will be no tax increases and no increase in garbage fees next year.

The budget lists a total of $3,993,318 in budgeted funds.Supervisors anticipate receiving $1,168,249 from taxes, $1,070 from licenses and permits; $36,600, fines and forfeits; $8,933, interest, rents and royalties; $322,636, intergovernmental revenue; $892,689 (includes $360,000 for garbage collection), charges for services; $61,100, other financing sources and $1,502,041 reserve cash. The reserve cash is funds from the general fund, highway aid, fire hydrant tax fund, capital reserve building fund, sewer funds, recreation fund, reserve fund employee benefits, police vehicle and equipment fund, capital project road machinery fund and capital fund garbage collection.Supervisors anticipate spending $269.427 for general government; $679,070 for public safety (includes $516,113 for police protection); $2,034 for health and welfare; $680,045 for sanitation; $33,997 for recreation; $250 conservation and development; $140,891 for debt services; $52,090 (includes $15,000 for police vehicle and equipment), other financing uses; for a total of $2,547,248 and $1,446,070 in unappropriated assets.Last year the millage was 6.3 mills for general funds and .537 mills for the capitol reserve building fund, for a total of 6.837 mills. Residents who live within 750 feet from a fire hydrant will continue to be assessed an additional .8 mills.One mill generates $15,901.60.At the budget workshop meeting, earlier this month, supervisors announced that the township intends to purchase a new police car for approximately $29,000 next year and purchase a used roller for the township road crew.In other business:The board adopted resolutions for Central Carbon County Regional Plan, Greenway and Open Space Plan and Regional Transportation Plan. The board did not have quorum to adopt the plan during the Central Carbon County Regional Plan meeting.The board also approved a change order to the pond dredging plan at the Phifer Ice Dam Park. The change order will permit the installation of a temporary bridge and haul road to access alternate dump site. The temporary bridge will be removed when finished.
