Lehighton United Veterans Organization will host the 2011 Memorial Day services on Sunday, May 29, and Monday, May 30.

Monday's servciesThe main speaker at the 11 a.m. Monday services at the Lehighton cemetery will be LTC John O'Boyle, deputy commander, 213th ASG, Pennsylvania Army National Guard. The invocation and benediction will be given by UVO chaplain James H. Wentz. Harry J. Wynn III, post commander American Legion, will be in charge of the service. Mayor Donald Rehrig will give greetings.The veterans groups divide into two sections to simultaneously hold services at the Catholic Cemetery, and the Union Hill cemetery.Services will be conducted at the Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard monument at 8:45 a.m., rifle salute at the Col. Weiss monument at 8:55 a.m., Gnaden Huetten Hospital monument at 9:05 a.m. and Firemen's monument at 9:15 a.m.The Lehighton division, with the Lehighton Band forms at the Lehighton Annex, North Third Street, at 9:15 a.m. and will proceed to the Catholic cemetery for services at 9:45 a.m. The Rev. U.S.A.F. veteran and teacher at Lehighton Area Middle School.Following the service, the Lehighton division will proceed to Mahoning Street via Third Street.The Weissport division, with the Lehighton Band, forms on Franklin Street at the Weissport Park at 9:30 a.m. They will salute the World War I and Ben Franklin monuments and then proceed to the Union Hill cemetery. The speaker will be Kevin Long, past Legion Post commander, past Carbon County Legion commander, and SPC retired Pennsylvania Army National Guard. The invocation and benediction will be given by UVO chaplain William H. Gross.Each division will be headed by a UVO color guard, band PANG firing squad, veterans and boy and girl scouts.En route to Third Street, a wreath will be tossed off the Weissport bridge to honor the dead at sea.Both divisions will unite at Third and Mahoning streets and proceed to the Lehighton cemetery.Sunday services.On Sunday, West Group will be at the following locations: 9 a.m., St. John's cemetery; 10:15 a.m. Ben Salem cemetery; 11:15 Dinkey Memorial cemetery; 12:15 p.m., Packerton cemetery; 12:30 p.m. rifle salute Packerton memorial.East Group will be at the following location: 9 a.m. Parryville cemetery; 9:45 a.m. Long Run cemetery; 10:15 a.m. Big Creek cemetery; 11 a.m. Franklin Heights cemetery; and noon, North Weissport cemetery.
