Schuylkill Township supervisors approved revisions to the flood plain ordinance as part of a requirement for DCED. The revisions are part of a county-wide plan. Township solicitor Michael Greek explained that the township's old ordinance was antiquated and that the revised plan will allow those residents who live in the flood plain to get better insurance rates once the plan is published.

Supervisors approved the purchase of 80 tons of salt from Costar for the 2011-12 season. The township has the option of purchasing up to 120 tons at the guaranteed price. "This gives us the option to purchase more if we have a bad winter and avoids a higher markup during the season," said supervisor Christine Verdier.A request to hold the annual Tamaqua Adult Day Care 5K run/walk on May 7th was approved.Township treasurer Mary Bubel said that the delinquent garbage fees are down to $599 from over $8000. "People are making payments," she said.Supervisors approved the addition of Rush Township as a new member of the Northern Schuylkill Council of Governments. The COG acts as a whole to increase the buying power of smaller townships, enabling them to share equipment and services.Chairman Linda DeCindio announced that residents can start sweeping their streets. They should contact the township building to request pick up of the dirt piles.
