A married Montgomery County veterinarian pleaded guilty in Lehigh County court on Thursday to killing his pregnant girlfriend, a former Lehighton woman.

David Rapoport, 31, pleaded guilty to first degree murder in the death of Jennifer L. Snyder, 27, and her unborn child last March. Judge Robert L. Steinberg immediately sentenced him to two consecutive life in prison without parole terms.In exchange for the pleas, the district attorney agreed not to seek the death penalty. Rapoport also agreed not to file any appeals in the case or seek a pardon from the governor.Snyder was a veterinary tech who worked with the defendant at a veterinarian hospital in Lehigh County and had a three-year affair with her. He admitted shooting Snyder twice in the mouth and once in the back on March 16 in a remote part of North Whitehall.Snyder had learned she was pregnant a short time earlier and informed Rapoport.State police investigators said Rapoport bought the 9 mm semiautomatic handgun on March 11 at a Target store near where he lived. He also purchased baby wipes, duct tape, trash bags and bleach.He met Snyder on the day of the murder at a bagel shop in North Whitehall Township. She thought, her family members said, that Rapoport was going to tell her he was leaving his wife and that he would start a new life with her and raise their child.District Attorney James Martin said the murder was a calculated killing and the defendant planned and carried it out.
