Wal-Mart iPhone theft loss totals $8,254

A smash-and-grab in the middle of the night at the Wal-Mart store along SR443 in Mahoning Township resulted in the theft of 13 Apple iPhones, with a collective value of $8,254.22 ($599 per unit).

According to township police the incident occurred on July 22, at about 2:04 a.m.Chief of Police Kenneth Barnes said a white male, believed to be in his late 30s to early 40s, broke into an electronics cabinet and stole the Apple brand iPhones.The suspect is described as heavy set, tattoos on his left arm, and was wearing glasses. At the time of the incident he was wearing a black T-shirt, jeans, and a baseball cap.Barnes said the male left the store by the Lawn and Garden area and entered a red Chevrolet Blazer.Police report they have surveillance footage and still photos of the suspect and are asking for help from the public to identify the male.Anyone having information is urged to call township police at (570) 386-2241 or the non-emergency phone number of the Carbon County Telecommunications Center at (570) 325-9111.
