A 54-year-old Brockton man was appointed to fill a seat on the Schuylkill Township board of supervisors during a reorganizational meeting held Wednesday at the township municipal building in Mary D.

The seat was declared vacant after the death last Friday of Chairman Joe Boran, who served the township for 22 years.Charles A. Hosler, a St. Clair native who serves as secretary of the Schuylkill Valley Sewer Authority, was appointed township supervisor pursuant to Section 407 of the municipal code.Hosler will be counted on to assist the township with his expertise as a mason, electrician and mechanic, according to Linda DeCindio, chairman.Hosler will fill the seat for the remainder of the unexpired term of Boran, whose term expires January, 2012.The board and members of the public observed a moment of silence for Boran at the start of the session.Police Chief Jesse Zimmerman reported on 83 hours of duty during August in which he patrolled 304 miles and handled 16 complaints, including one each of criminal mischief, harassment, suspicious vehicle, disturbance, open door, abandoned vehicle, lost/found, traffic accident, 911 hang-up call and theft.Among other discussion were comments about Marcellus Shale Gas Drilling in Pennsylvania and resolution of residential parking issues in Brockton.In addition it was noted that letters have been sent to 54 delinquent garbage collection customers. If payment in full is not made within 15 days, those in arrears will need to appear before the local district justice.Schuylkill Township includes residents of the towns and villages of Tuscarora, Brockton, Mary D, Newkirk and Reevesdale.
