At Walnutport Council's workshop meeting that was held Thursday night Council voted to get rubber roofing and mulch for the area around the playground equipment at the Walnutport Playground so the playground can meet the safety requirements to put their swings up.

Councilman Matthew Newhard said that they're looking for volunteers to help spread the mulch May 15 at 8 a.m.In other business, Everett Kaul, of the Walnutport Canal Association, said that lock 25 of the Walnutport Canal is deteriorating and that it needs to be stabilized, or the canal could lose a mile and a half of water. According to Kaul, the project to stabilize the lock will cost a minimum of $150,000. Council said that they are going to look into applying for grants for the project.Mike Wentz, who is the borough's grant coordinator, asked that the citizens of Walnutport fill out their census forms because that will help the borough with applying for grants.
