Area students from Carbon County high schools and Marian took part in a weeklong Youth Leadership Camp sponsored by "Leadership Carbon".

Leadership Carbon is an adult leadership development program designed to cultivate leaders for the benefit of Carbon County's future.The adult program is part of the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce and Partners for Progress.The participants of that program met once a month for nine months to learn about leadership and the ways to improve the quality of life here in Carbon County.The weeklong Youth Leadership Camp was the project of the adults who had already participated in Leadership Carbon.In much the same way as the adult program, Youth Leadership Camp is also meant to prepare these youths to be the future leaders in our county.The students, all high school Juniors representing their schools, attended mini workshops every day for a week and visited and toured businesses around Carbon County.Among the businesses that they visited throughout the week of the camp were Weatherly Castings, Kovatch Corporation, the Old Jail Museum in Jim Thorpe, and the Mauch Chunk Trust Co.At the end of the week on Friday evening, the students were treated to a combination graduation/picnic at Memorial Park in Jim Thorpe where each student received a Certificate of Completion of the Youth Leadership Camp.
