Jonas Rd. bridge reopens

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today the Jonas Road Bridge over Pohopoco Creek in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County, is now open.

A bridge replacement project had the Bridge closed since April 13.During construction Jonas Road was closed between PA 115 and Merwinsburg Road.The posted detour routed traffic over PA 115, Valley Road, and Merwinsburg Road.Crews demolished the single-span steel I-beam bridge and constructed a new single-span concrete plank beam bridge. The project also included the installation of new bridge roadway approaches, guide rail and line paint.Pennsy Supply, Inc. of Hummelstown, Pa. was the general contractor on the $639,288 project.The old Jonas Road Bridge was constructed in 1942 and was posted with a three ton weight restriction. It was 31 feet long, 25 feet wide and had an average daily traffic of 1,904 vehicles.The new Jonas Road Bridge is 30.5 feet long, 30 feet wide and has no weight restriction.
