Lehighton Area High School choirs present 'Disney Christmas Celebration'

The Lehighton Area High School Choirs will be presenting "A Disney Christmas Celebration" on Friday, December 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

This marks their 54th Annual Christmas Choral Concert and will feature the voices of the Concert Choir and "Music Express".The concert will feature all of the music that they will be performing in the Walt DisneyWorld Resorts December 8-13.A minimum admission fee is charged. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society Carbon/Tamaqua Unit and Holiday Educare.This year the district is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of "Music Express."This show choir began in 1985 at the Junior High School and now has its program at both the Middle School and High School. The auditioned choirs perform music with choreography, costumes, and staging.Last June the show choir submitted a DVD audition to the Magic Music Days staff at DisneyWorld and were selected within two weeks. This auditioned choir will be performing a variety of secular Christmas music with choreography.Some of their selections will include: "All I Want For Christmas Is You", "White Christmas", "Step into Christmas", and "Happy Holidays."The program will be presented again on December 10 at 2:45 p.m. in the Disney Resorts. They will be performing on Disney's brand new Waterfront Stage located in Downtown Disney.They have also been selected to perform at Hershey Park on December 23 at 6 p.m. as part of Hershey's Christmas Candylane Festival.This award-winning ensemble is under the direction of David Perkins.The Concert Choir is a mixed ensemble that will be performing literature for their appearance at EPCOT in the Walt DisneyWorld Resorts.The choir is under the direction of Perkins and will be accompanied by Audrey Christ from Zion Stone Church in Tamaqua.The choir will open with a Christmas processional in Latin. The rest of their performance will be selections from Disney's Candlelight Processional.These arrangements were written specifically for this event.The Lehighton Choir will be part of Epcot's mass choir which features the "Voices of Liberty" and "Disney Cast Choir." They are joined by a 50 piece live orchestra and a celebrity narrator. Together they tell the story of Christmas in words and music in a very moving performance. Performances are held at the American Gardens Theatre.Lehighton High School will be performing in the processional on Wednesday, December 9, at 6:45 and 8:15 p.m.The Concert Choir will perform traditional carols and selections from various countries around the world.The concert will include "O Come All Ye Faithful", "O Holy Night", "Do You Hear What I Hear", "Joy To The World" and "The Hallelujah Chorus."The choir has received permission to recreate this event at home for friends, family, and the community.The snow date for the concert is Sunday, December 6, at 3 p.m.

Special to the TIMES NEWS The Concert Choir of Lehighton Area High School will join the Music Express of the school for a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4. The concert precedes a trip by the two school groups to Disney World from Dec. 8 to 13.
